On Good Friday, April 18, 2003 we received the good news from the Director, Exempt Organizations of the US Internal Revenue Service, that the DAAS request for tax-exempt status had been approved. This was in response to our application which we submitted three months ago.

During what is defined as the Advance Ruling Period from May 13, 2002 until December 31, 2006, DAAS will be treated as a publicly supported organisation.
DAAS is now in a position to:

• solicit grants,
• solicit contributions in kind or cash,
• write-offs,
• "bequests, legacies, devices, transfers or gifts".

Donors may now deduct from their tax returns contributions they make to DAAS.
